WHAT IS DBT?
DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy that focuses on learning how to balance your current emotional state with a need for change. It's particularly effective for people who struggle with emotional dysregulation, which might look like depression, anxiety, or mental health conditions like Complex PTSD.
WHAT ARE DBT SKILLS?
The "skills" we reference in DBT & RO-DBT therapy are tools that help us regulate and accept our emotions while taking steps toward change. Specifically, we work on Mindfulness, interpersonal skills, emotional dysregulation skills, and distress tolerance. They range from techniques to calm your nervous system to conversational skills that enable you to keep balance in your relationships. They are an incredibly useful set of skills that increase resilience and offer hope to many.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM
DBT SKILLS TRAINING?
DBT Skills are often taught in Skills Classes, which are typically a part of a larger structured program that includes intensive individual therapy and 24/7 coaching. I provide 1:1 and small group DBT Skills Training as an alternative for people who would like to learn these skills but do not want to enter an intensive program. This can apply to my own therapy clients, or could be tailored to other clinicians, social workers, doctors, parents etc. DBT Skills can help everyone accept their emotions and work toward change.
